Carolyn McGowan Evans

Mrs. Evans was born May 20, 1951 in Huntsville, Texas to Frank and Ernestine McGowan. She was raised in Houston, Texas where she graduated from Cashmere Gardens High School in 1968. Carolyn graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a specialization in accounting. While attending UT Arlington, she pledged her membership to Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. Prior to graduation she worked in the bursar’s office as an accountant, and later became the bursar of the university. After moving to Austin in 1993, she worked for the Texas Railroad Commission and retired from the Texas Rehabilitation Commission.

Mrs. Carolyn McGowan Evans was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; daughter Dionne. She leaves behind her daughters Crystal Evans (Michael Hunter) of Ft. Worth TX, Dawn Carla Evans-Stake and son-in-law Ron Stake of Pflugerville, TX; grandson, Charles Murry, II (Tarena Gibbs) and their children of Ft. Worth, TX; sister and brother-in-law Theron & Robert Groves; brother Billy McGowan and wife Ethel of Centennial, CO; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A visitation for Carolyn will be held Friday, May 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 1202 W Pecan St, Pflugerville, TX 78660, followed by a celebration of her life at 11:00 AM.
