Raised on a farm in Komensky, Texas, Dennis was a dual sport athlete at Hallettsville High School and graduated from the University of Texas but remained a lifelong Aggie at heart. After college he joined the Air Force and served as an officer in France. His entire work career was spent at IBM in Austin. Dennis was an avid reader. His reading list consisted of every Stephen King novel and every biography he could find. He loved his classic TV shows, including Perry Mason and Gunsmoke. Fishing was a favorite hobby of his and he often spent weekends fishing with his brother-in-law, David. He became an animal lover later in life and his cats held a special place in his heart.
But, above all else, Dennis loved his family and we loved him. He was gracious and generous and set an example by opening his heart to others. Dennis had two children, James and Mike, from his marriage to Cindy. When he later married Nita, a marriage that lasted 41 years, he gained two stepchildren, Cris and Roxanne. He loved them and thought of them as his own. All four of his children, his wife and other family were constant visitors to Dennis during his final days.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Victor and Clotilda, and his brothers and sister, John, Frank and Vivian. He is survived by Nita, Cris, Roxanne, James, Mike, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild, and his brothers Arthur and Jim.
Visitation will begin at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, on July 9, 2026, at 10:30 am, followed by a rosary and prayer service at the same location at 12:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
