Donal Roy Valdes (Donny, Don), made his way to Paradise on Monday, October 5, 2026.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Donna, daughter Leah, son and daughter-in-law, Lindsey and Brandi, and precious grandchildren Kelsey, Solomon, Dawsyn, and Rowan. Also survived by brother David Valdes, sister and brother-in-law Alma and Darren Waddell; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dennis and Buina Collins, and loving aunt and uncle Jim and Annabeth Willis, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews and friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Valdes and Billie Tullos.
Donny and Donna Lynne Collins were married in Austin TX on March 23, 1974. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2024.
Donny was born in Port Arthur, TX, on October 1, 1950. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1968 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lamar University in 1972. He attended The University of Texas School of Pharmacy, obtaining his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1977.
He began his pharmacy career at Revco, then Austin State Hospital, and eventually obtained Ken’s Pharmacy where he held court with his many adoring customers for 14 years. After selling his business, he began working at HHSC in the Vendor Drug Program and after retirement went back as a consultant.
When he finally retired for real, he enjoyed his wife, children, and grandchildren and his church family. He was honored to serve as an elder at Cameron Road Church of Christ since 2014.
Donny was a man of many interests and talents, enjoying all sports, especially Texas Longhorn football, crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking, woodworking, tinkering with lawn mowers and tractors…always curious and asking questions. He was a jack of all trades. And singing and music (all kinds) were his world. One of his greatest thrills was to see Luciano Pavarotti perform in person.
He was super intelligent, sweet, kind, gracious, loving, generous, jokester, rascal, funny…the list goes on. He was a blessing to us all. One of his last sayings was “tell everyone that you love them.”
He loved his Lord and he let his light shine to let others know about his Savior Jesus Christ.
We miss you and love you Pop.
