On April 28, 2026, Donald D Jones, Jr, 71, of Pflugerville, Texas, went home to the Lord. Don was born on February 9, 1955, in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, growing up in Southeastern Oklahoma and the Houston, Texas area.
Don was a loving husband and father who cherished time spent with his wife, daughters, and, of course, the family dogs. He was passionate about his work supporting food safety efforts across the country and became widely recognized as an expert in the field.
Proudest member of the Fighting Texas Aggie Class of 1977, and former mascot corporal, Don never missed the opportunity to watch his team play on Saturdays. Upon graduation from Texas A&M University, Don went on to honorably serve his country as a field artillery officer with the United States Army, the Texas National Guard, and the Arkansas National Guard. He eventually reached the rank of Captain during more than a decade of service.
Dearly loved by his family, Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Leslie A. Jones; his daughters, Kimberly and Elizabeth Jones; his sister, Melody Geer; and his brother, Jeff Jones.
The family is profoundly grateful to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City, Utah; St. Luke’s Medical Center of Nampa, Idaho; and the Baylor Scott and White Medical Center in Round Rock, Texas, for their tireless care and treatment of Don in his brave battle against cancer. They are also deeply thankful to Visiting Angels of Georgetown, Texas, for the care and compassion they provided Don in his final days.
A celebration of life will be held in Austin, Texas, at a later date.
To honor Don’s life, the family asks you to consider donating to the Donald D Jones Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at Texas A&M University. Donations may be made at tx.ag/DonaldJonesJrMemorial
