She was born on December 29, 1923 in Stephenville, Texas to Jodie (Bennett) and Charles A. McDonald. She attended Stephenville Public Schools and Tarleton State University. On July 15, 1951, she married John T. Whiteside. Doris worked as a medical transcriptionist for the VA Hospital in Big Spring, Texas and St. David’s Hospital in Austin for 12 years. She also worked for Drs. Schneider, Reeves, McCarron and Phillips. She studied piano from age eight through college and played her first church service at the age of 12. She played for over 75 years at various churches and nursing homes. She was a perfectionist and loved music, the outdoors and the beauty of nature.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, and her sister and brother-in-law, Joanna and Bill Jones. She is survived by her son, Mac; grandson, John Dillon and granddaughter, Dianna Marie and their mother, Patty Whiteside; two nephews, Kevin and Scott Carpenter; and other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the funeral home chapel. She will be laid to rest at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
