Evelyn Isabel (Beck) Fischer, 91, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2017. Evelyn was born on September 30, 1925 to Hettie and Albert Beck Jr. in Rockne, Texas. She was raised in a small farmhouse with 11 siblings. Evelyn was brought up to work hard and appreciate the little things she had. The family bonds were strong as was their Catholic faith and Evelyn kept these values throughout her life.
Evelyn moved to the big city of Austin to attend St. Mary’s Academy High School. Her parents paid her tuition by supplying fresh farm goods to the school for the boarders’ meals. Evelyn, however, did not board at the school. She took a room at a house on Baylor Street. Needing a date for a dance one night, the owner of the house fixed her up with one of the boys next door and that is how she met her husband of 55 years, C. A. Fischer, Jr.
C. A. and Evelyn were married in 1946 and raised 9 children. Evelyn was a mother and homemaker for many years. She and C. A. provided for their big family as well as they could and made sure there was a family vacation every summer. When her youngest children were of school age, Evelyn took a job as a nurse’s aide at a nursing home close to her house. Caring for the elderly and infirm gave her great pleasure and it came very naturally to her. She and C. A. were long time members of St. Louis Catholic Church and Evelyn participated in many church and school clubs and activities.
Evelyn enjoyed Country Music, dancing with C. A., watching game shows and baseball on TV, playing bingo and “42” and returning to Rockne to spend time with her family and partake in the church festivals.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, C. A., her parents and 10 siblings, her daughters, Susan, Beverly and Melissa and son, Paul. She is survived by her sister, Jane; children, Peggy, Gayle, Claudia (Dennis), Fred (Kim) and Melinda (Lisa), daughter-in-law, Jayne, and the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Rene’ (Marshall), Austin, Kris (Erin), Marki, Eddy Jr., Haley, Trevor, Koda and Blake.
Evelyn will be dearly missed but can be remembered in memorial contributions made to the Rockne Historical Association, 4065 FM 535, Bastrop, Texas, 78602.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Park Bend Health Center and Kindred Hospice for their special attention to our Mother.
Visitation will be held on 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
