Jane Ellen Goodman Young, 85, of Pflugerville, Texas, passed from this life to live in heaven on Saturday, September 15, 2018. She was born in Bristol, Tennessee on July 11, 1933 to her parents, David and Lucile Goodman.
Jane’s childhood and early adolescent years were spent in the Tennessee/Virginia area, but in 1948 the family began their residence in the Sweeny, Texas locality. It was there in 1951 that Jane graduated from Sweeny High School and then went for further studies at the University of Corpus Christi, Texas.
On October 22, 1955, Jane married Charles A. Young, a Baptist minister, thus beginning her life as a pastor’s wife and co-worker in the churches where they served in Longview, Weimer, Stockdale, Bastrop, and Austin, Texas. She served as pianist or organist in all of these places and also reveled in the joy of teaching Sunday School and Bible classes as needed. Her motto was “Others” and she truly loved every opportunity to be of service and help to those in need.
“Thank you, Jane, for your eleven years and three months (2007-2018) of faithful-dedicated-skillful ministry and service for your Savior and the Walnut Creek Baptist Church.” We at the Walnut Creek Baptist Church were blessed to receive and be a part of her long ministry which included her beloved Charles. Like the keys on her beloved, cherished piano and organ, all the little things she shared created the most beautiful and blessed hymns. Jane cooked GREAT desserts for our many fellowship meals. She was loved by all and we will miss her.
Her beloved husband, Charles, preceded her in death on September 6, 2006. Her parents, her only brother, Curtis Goodman, and her only sister, Doris Goodman Allen, also predeceased her. Several nieces and nephews, along with their children, survive Jane.
The visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church of Pflugerville, where Jane was a member, with the funeral services at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, with Dr. Steve Washburn officiating. Graveside services will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the New Prospect Cemetery near Henderson, Texas.
For those desiring, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church of Pflugerville, Texas or to the Gideon International for the distribution of Bibles.
