It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, brother, uncle, popo, and friend Jesse Guerrero Portillo, 78 of Austin, TX. Our beloved Jesse saw his sunset on September 8, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories for countless people who were fortunate enough to know him.
Jesse was a man whose strength, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone around him.
Jesse proudly served his country in the United States Army, where his courage and dedication earned him both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. His strength and commitment to serving others remained a defining part of who he was throughout his life.
Jesse devoted 32 years to his career working as a machinist with Intermedics Orthopedics/Zimmer Biomet, building reconstruction joints. He took tremendous pride in his work and had an extraordinary work ethic.
His dedication to work came from his desire to provide a comfortable life for his family. He took great pride in being a provider and in making sure his beloved wife, his “Suga” Theresa, had everything she wanted.
Jesse and Theresa shared a beautiful life together, filled with travel, entertainment, and countless adventures. They attended numerous concerts, golf tournaments, football, baseball games, NASCAR and IndyCar races. They traveled to places such as Graceland and Niagara Falls. These memories will remain precious reminders of the life and love they shared.
Jesse also had a lifelong love of sports. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and fastpitch softball. Later, he became a dedicated spectator, proudly cheering for his Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. He watched nearly every sporting event he could find. He especially loved watching tennis, golf, baseball, basketball, and football.
But what mattered most to Jesse was family. He loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews tremendously. He was generous with his time and always willing to lend a hand. When someone needed help, Jesse didn't just offer words, he showed up and did what needed to be done. That quiet willingness to help was one of the many things that made him special.
The loss of Jesse leaves an emptiness that cannot be filled. There will be moments when his family will wish they could hear his voice, sit beside him, watch a game with him, or simply ask him for his help. Those moments will hurt, but they will also be reminders of how fortunate we were to have him.
His legacy will live on through the family he cherished, the work he was proud of, the people he helped, and the memories he created throughout his 78 years.
Jesse is preceded in death by his parents, Toby and Hipolita Portillo, and his beloved son, Ronnie Saucedo.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Theresa Portillo; his children, Gary (Lori) Saucedo, Monica (Bobby) Vasquez, JB Portillo, Rebecca (Rickey) Johnson, and Aaron (Crystal) Saucedo; his siblings, Maria (Lorenzo) Sanchez, Lucinda Sanchez, Toby Portillo Jr., and Christopher (Kymberlen) Portillo; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
May be gone from our sight, but will be forever in our hearts.
