Thinking of y’all during these times . John was a great man who always helped out with a smile on his face . I cherish the memories of him at his place , and the memories he helped us make with his food and generosity during our life celebrations . Pflugerville will miss him , and never forget him .

Prayers and hugs to you Brenda and Braedon.  I’ve always thought firstly of John as a wonderful  husband and father.

So very sorry for your family's loss. He sounded like a wonderful man. I wish I had been fortunate enough to have met him. In some ways I feel I have. There was nothing negative said about him. How many people can have such a dedication to their lives? Take care of yourselves. Prayers and love to your family.

John, I am at a loss for words.  You were not only a business client, you were our friend.  We LOVED working with you and hope that you are at peace in your Lord's hands.  It's comforting to know that you are a guardian angel for those who knew and loved you.  I feel your presence now and in the future will be needed.  Thank you for the memories.  I already miss your Facebook posts.  You were always a shining light.  Love you, my friend............

I’ll never forget John always trying to persuade our chemistry teacher to let us have a free day everyday. It didn’t work but his persistence always made us laugh. We will miss you John!

I met John a short time before his first pop-up at The Growler Bar a few years ago.  He gave back to the community, in part, by donating to the Pflugerville Police Department community events.
He was a friend to many small business owners in the area and I was proud to feed him when I owned Mama Jack's Diner.
John's passion led him to become the accomplished and well-respected Pit Master that he was.  His infectious smile and positive attitude were welcome wherever he was.  Folks just kind of gravitated to him.  John, you were one of the great ones and I'll miss you...

I met John at his shop while picking up a few racks of ribs.  He was getting them wrapped up for me & asked if I wanted to get any sides.  I asked what was good & he replied, “all of it”!  I added a few to the order & went home to dive into the meal with my family.   Needless to say we fell in love & became customers after that.  
Although we didn’t get there to often it seemed like every time I did go John was there & would always make me feel welcome.  It was obvious by the crowds there & his team that he built a business to feed & serve the community. 
You’ll be missed by so many but know how grateful we are for your kindness, friendly demeanor that made Brothertons BBQ a special place to visit.

I had only met John through BBQ and never got the pleasure of meeting his family. From my interactions with John he was always a kind-hearted, friendly handshake type of guy. He never seemed down or bothered and would always find a way to make you smile.

My family sends our deepest condolences to the Brotherton family, their friends and extended family as they navigate these times. We send our prayers and blessings upon you and that you find peace with this journey before you.

Our hearts go out to you (Brenda) and to everyone that loved John.  This is a huge loss! Brenda,  remember your great love story every day. I know your love will always continue, even though you are parted.  John was my only brother-in-law and we will miss him dearly!! We love you, John, Brenda and Braeden.

I would like to express my sincere, heartfelt condolences to the family of John Brotherton, the staff of Brotherton's Black Iron BBQ and the many friends John had in the Texas BBQ community and beyond. John, you left us too soon, but you made your mark as a legend of Texas BBQ and for that I will forever be grateful! You inspired those around you and with a selfless, kind, caring, loving and giving heart, you helped pay it forward to everyone around you! While your shoes will never be filled, future BBQ legends will emerge because of your knowledge and inspiration! As we all mourn your passing, we can find solace in knowing that Jesus Christ wept and grieved during his time of loss. We can find solace in his victory over the Cross when he conquered death by rising again! Today, Christ still lives and we know that John Brotherton now lives with the Risen Christ! John isn't just a legend in BBQ lore, he is the patron saint of Texas BBQ!!! Brother John, we will all miss seeing you around, but we will all "meat" again one day and so you better start firing up that smoker and get those briskets smoking! Until we meet again, rest in peace brother and I will see you on the other side!
