John C Douglas

John Craig Douglas of Pflugerville, Texas passed away on September 19, 2026 at the age of 76. He was born on December 20, 1949 in Sweetwater, Texas. After graduating from Sweetwater High School, he attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas before joining the Texas State Guard in the early 1970s. He then moved to Austin, where he met his future wife, Janet. They married in 1981, welcomed a son in 1982, a daughter in 1985, and shared nearly five decades together. John was an electrician who worked in many houses around Austin over the years. He truly loved his job and delighted in reminding family of the time he hung a light fixture for Walter Cronkite. He also enjoyed following football and University of Texas sports, caring for his yard, collecting canes, and watching old Westerns. He was known for his sense of humor, and enjoyed cracking jokes at any opportunity.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Virginia Douglas, and his sister Melissa Jo Douglas. He is survived by his wife Janet Douglas, son Joseph Douglas, daughter Kate Batch, sisters Ellyn Pettus and Susan Lindemann, six entertaining grandsons, and his nieces and nephew. A celebration of life will be held in late October. In his later years, John benefited from the help of The Assistance Fund to help pay for costly prescriptions, and he would have been honored by any donations made in his name at www.tafcares.org.
