Johnathan Charles Ellis

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Johnathan Charles Ellis—affectionately known to many as “Johnny,” and to his close friends as “Big Stomps” or just “Stomps”. A resident of Austin, Texas, Johnny passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 37, at Galveston Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.

Johnny was born on June 27, 1989, to Janice and Dan Ellis. Growing up in Austin, he was surrounded by a community that cherished his generous heart—he was the kind of person who would give anyone the shirt off his back without a second thought. As a loving son, brother, cousin, nephew, and friend, Johnny brought immense joy, comfort, and unwavering loyalty to all who knew him.

Johnny was a sports enthusiast from an early age, playing soccer, baseball, wrestling, and especially football. He loved the freedom to channel his boundlessness on the gridiron, where tackling was part of the game. That passion made him a die-hard Texas sports fan, proudly rooting for the UT Longhorns, the Dallas Cowboys, and the San Antonio Spurs. Outside of sports, Johnny spent hours in his room blasting music—luckily, a playlist everyone in the house actually enjoyed. Behind the scenes, he was also an avid collector of unique soda cans and bottles, meticulously displaying his treasures on a custom shelf wrapping around his bedroom walls.

Johnny’s path shifted significantly over the past few years as he turned to scripture and built a strong spiritual foundation. Reaffirming his devotion to God, he was baptized again—marking the start of a renewed journey. This commitment to positive change transformed him, deepening his integrity, empathy, and accountability.

Johnny leaves behind a legacy of kindness, adventure, and meaningful relationships. He had a rare way of bringing strength and joy into a room, and his spirit will continue to inspire everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.

Johnny is survived by his loving parents, Janice and Daniel Ellis. He has a large and caring extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends who considered him family. He joins in rest with his brother, Benjamin Daniel Ellis, who passed away on April 9, 2026.

Johnny will be missed dearly and forever in our hearts.
