September 25, 1936 – September 30, 2026
Josephine “Josie” Jaso Allman passed away September 30th, peacefully at home, having lived a vibrant, loving, and full life. Always determined and steadfast, she was proud to celebrate her milestone 90th birthday surrounded by the warmth of her family.
Josie was born on September 25, 1936, in Spofford, Texas, to Mary and Guadalupe (Lupe) Jaso. After spending her early childhood in Brackettville, her family relocated in 1945 to Austin—a city she would proudly call home for the rest of her life. She grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School.
Above all else, Josie embraced her true calling in motherhood. She delighted in raising her two daughters, Cindy and Terri, as a dedicated stay-at-home mother, centering her world around supporting her girls. During their time on the high school dance team, the Vikettes, Josie was a fixture behind the scenes—spending countless hours sewing uniforms from scratch, crafting props, fundraising, and traveling to competitions.
In 1968, Josie married the love of her life, Tom Allman, after being introduced through mutual friends. Together, they shared 49 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2017. Josie and Tom shared a vibrant social life; they loved going out for live music in Austin, bowling with friends, hosting gatherings, and taking annual family beach trips to Rockport for fishing and time on the water.
As her daughters grew older, Josie stayed busy taking on different part-time jobs. She loved working alongside her sister, Lillian Hashem, at her salon, Hashem’s Hair-em, and later took a retail position at the ABC Baby Store, where she cherished helping new parents prepare for their growing families. One of her absolute favorite jobs brought her right back to family: working with her nephew, Randy Hashem, at his restaurant, Chisholm Trail Icehouse & BBQ, where she loved greeting and serving the daily regulars.
Josie possessed a creative spirit and an eye for fine-tuned detail. She spent endless hours outdoors tending to her garden and flowerbeds, clipping recipes from Southern Living magazines, and crafting. An incredible seamstress and maker, her talent knew no bounds.
Family was the beating heart of Josie’s life. Her home was a magical sanctuary with her faithful dog Rocket, constantly by her side. She always showed up with fierce devotion, making everyone feel completely and unconditionally loved.
Josie was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Guadalupe Jaso, and her beloved husband, Tom Allman.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Cindy Higginbotham (Dennis) and Terri Morgan (Ronald); her sister, Lillian Hashem; her nephew, Randy Hashem (Paulla), along with Haleigh and Hayden; her cherished grandchildren, Erin Elrakabawy (Marwan), Ryan Morgan (Karlie), Brooke Cisneros (Gilbert), and Brett Higginbotham (Dora); her great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Noah, Raef, Maclin, Penelope, Amalia, Sienna and Imogene; as well as her dear extended cousins, lifelong friends and her faithful companion Rocket.
