Mary Evelyn Kastner Evans passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 16, in Liberty Hill, Texas, surrounded by her loving daughters. She often said her goal was to live to the same age as her mother, and with her characteristic determination, she came remarkably close—just 41 days shy of her 96th birthday.
Mary was many things: a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter, doting grandmother, caring sister, trusted friend, and successful businesswoman. Family was always at the heart of her life.
A dynamic entrepreneur, Mary ran several businesses alongside her husband of fifty years, Charlie Evans. Together they built not only successful ventures, but a life rooted in hard work, perseverance, and shared purpose. Mary led by example, teaching the value of hard work, good judgment, courage, and integrity. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family and was deeply committed to their success and well-being.
She had a deep love for the outdoors and a spirited sense of adventure, which she joyfully shared with others. Whether boating, camping, traveling, exercising, bowling, enjoying live music and fireworks, gathering for picnics, or working puzzles, Mary embraced anything that brought fun and laughter. She was a proud and active member of the Austin Power Squadron for more than 40 years, forming friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.
Mary truly never met a stranger. She was social, outgoing, and genuinely loved people. Her home and office were a welcoming place—filled with lively conversation, warmth, and, of course, sweets always ready to share. Her generosity, hospitality, and joyful spirit made everyone feel at home.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Deborah and Betty Jo; and two grandchildren, Alex and Christina; who carry forward her strength, determination, and love of life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Evans; her daughter, Charlene Lehman; her parents, Alfred and Alma Kastner; her two sisters, Alvera Peschka, and Hilda Neidig.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas.
