

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Loren Kemp Martin. They were married on June 10, 1967, in Kansas City, MO. She was also preceded in death by her parents, John Eugene Leonard and Genevieve Lucille (Walker) Leonard, and her older brother Paul Joseph Johnson.
She is survived by her younger sister, Linda Jean (Leonard) Reppell of Overland Park, KS; her two sons and their wives: John Timothy "Tim" Martin and Jenny (Wye) Martin of Nagoya, Japan; and Jeremy Brock Martin and Christina (Crawford) Martin of Austin, TX; and her three grandchildren Hudson Zachary Martin, Annalise Caroline Martin and Suzannah Grace Martin.
Mary graduated from Southeast High School (Kansas City, MO), Kansas City Junior College (Kansas City, MO), and the University of Missouri (Columbia, MO). After graduating from college, Mary worked in various roles including hospital nutritionist, preschool teacher’s aide, church business manager, and clerk in the Rice University Cashier’s Office.
Mary treasured and cherished family activities through the years and actively volunteered in church, youth sports, and Boy Scouts. Along with Loren, Mary loved researching family history and was an avid genealogist. Mary’s greatest joy was caring for others. Whether it was assembling and sending a care package, planning and making a handmade gift, or sharing a cherished recipe, Mary deeply enjoyed giving from her blessings and creative talents with friends and family.
Mary lived her life with deep faith and belief in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Mary spoke with confidence by sharing her testimony to Christ’s love. To honor her memory, financial contributions may be directed to ministry areas that Mary supported including faith communities, food and shelter, youth and education, and veteran services.
Mary passed away on May 11, 2026, in Austin, TX. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the teams from Buckner Villas and Hospice Austin for their loving care and support.
A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Mount Washington Cemetery (Independence, MO). Visitation will begin at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am.
