Robert Hamilton, loving husband and father to three daughters, passed away in his Florida home on Saturday May 9th, 2020.

Robert was born to Howard and Shirley Hamilton at the Pensacola, FL Naval Air Station, where he resided for only two weeks before making the first of many moves. He spent the early years of his life with his brother and sisters relocating whenever his father was transferred by the Navy. He lived as far east as Maine and as far west as the island of Guam. When asked where he grew up, Robert was known to jokingly reply, “in the back of a blue and white station wagon”.

After his parents’ divorce in 1966, Robert’s mother, Shirley, later married Edwin Hart. Robert’s family was further expanded when, in 1969, his father, Howard, married Jean Jernigan. The Hamiltons and Jernigans combined into one household in Corpus Christi, TX where Robert lived with his father, stepmother, sisters, brother, stepsisters and stepbrother. Over time, they simply became family.

After graduating from Carroll High School, Robert joined the Army where he served from 1973-1976 in Korea and the United States. He used the GI bill to get a degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin where he met his wife Elizabeth Teatom, and went on to obtain a Law Degree from St. Mary’s University. Robert had several talents, and succeeded in various careers such as writing and photographing for the Daily Texan newspaper, working as a law clerk for the Chief Justice at the Texas Supreme Court, computer programming, and being a criminal defense lawyer. Robert and Elizabeth had their daughters, Catherine, Emma, and Faith, and lived in San Antonio, TX before moving to south Florida in 2006.

Robert was an avid history buff, an intelligent man with a gift for language, an honest man who lived life to the fullest, a laidback and fun-loving guy, who listened to rock from the 70s and classic country ballads his father used to sing to him; he marched to the beat of his own drum, he would do anything for those he loved, and was respectable, honorable and memorable to all. His friendly face would uplift you every time you saw him, and he will be deeply missed.

Robert is preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Edwin Hart, who loved him dearly.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and his daughters, Catherine, Emma and Faith, as well as his father and stepmother, Howard and Jean Hamilton, and his siblings, Robin Hamilton Vickers, Kaye Hamilton Watson, Jeff Hamilton, Janis Hamilton Kennedy, Ron Jernigan, Lyn Jernigan Monaghen, Terri Jernigan Frazier, Roy Hart, and Vicki Hart Gilliam, and a host of loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas on Tuesday, May 19th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A chapel service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., preceding a private burial service held at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen Wednesday afternoon. May he rest in eternal peace and forever be with his loved ones.
