Roscoe "Rock" Parker Jr.

Rock graduated from IC Norcom High School in Portsmouth, VA. After high school, he worked for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company in Washington, DC, as a cable technician. Rock then started his career with IBM in Washington, DC, and eventually transferred to the IBM facility in Sherman, TX, where he began his career in management. Sherman is also where he met and married Barbara Ann. The family relocated to Boulder, CO, and eventually relocated to IBM in Austin, TX, where he lived until his death.

Rock retired from IBM after over 30+ years. After retiring, he worked at Applied Materials and Stryker, where he held different positions. As a young man, Rock loved to bowl and play pool. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, and loved watching his favorite football team, the Washington Commanders. He also loved spending time with his family. Over the years, Rock met and became good friends with many people from his previous employers, Capital City Golf Association and the Shotmakers Golf Club.

Rock was a kindhearted, honorable man who treated others with respect and kindness. His calm, approachable nature and willingness to go above and beyond for others made him truly one of a kind. He will be remembered for his good heart and the lasting impact he made on the lives of those who knew and loved him. Rock will truly be missed.

Rock was preceded in death by his wife, mother, father, and grandparents, James and Maner Parker.

He is survived by his children, Lisa Carr(Curtis) of Pflugerville, TX, Sterling(Angela) of Sherman, TX and Angela Brown of Round Rock, TX; grandchildren, Jason Carr, Sherrick Thompson, Brandon Carr, Shantavia Monroe, Jaquila Dunlap, Satija Dunlap, Sterling “Spanky” Brown, and D' Marcus Shepard; nineteen great grandchildren; brothers, Vincent Parker(Garlynn) of Mitchellville, MD, Dwayne Stanton(Susan) of Lanham MD; sister Vanessa Stanton of Simpsonville, SC; cousin Charity Smith(MC) of El Paso TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Rock will be held at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville, Texas 78660, on October 31, 2026, at 11:00 am.
