

William Malan (Bill), 62, of Austin, TX was taken home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 26, 2021. Bill was born on September 19, 1958 in Conway, SC. Bill moved several times with his family, living in Kansas City, MO., San Jose, CA., Kingston, NY., Playa del Rey, CA., El Segundo, CA., Colorado Springs, CO. and Austin, TX. Bill graduated from Westlake High School in 1976. During high school, Bill played the tuba in the band, bowled on a league and worked at Austin Bowl-O-Rama. After high school, he attended one year of college at Texas State University then nine months at Durham Business College getting a certificate in electronics.
Bill began his first professional job at Omega Electronics working as an Electronics Test Technician in September 1978. He worked as an Electronics Test Technician at Eagle Signal for a short time in late 1979. Bill worked as a Chemical Engineer at AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) from 1980 to 1994. He was employee of the month twice during his employment at AMD. After a trampoline accident in 1994, Bill had to leave AMD and take disability for the remainder of his life. Not wanting to sit around the house all day, Bill volunteered 4 hours a day Monday through Friday for the Taylor Independent School District for many years. He tutored elementary students who were having trouble with their grades. He was praised by teachers and parents for his gentle way with children and thorough teaching.
In 1980, Bill married Debbie Kimball. The next year, Christina was born. Bill married Tammy Simpson in 1986. To that marriage, Erik was born the next year. In 1992, Bill married Charlotte King. Bill gained a step-daughter, Rachel, and the following year Dylan was born. Bill was single for about twenty years then married Fleita Welsh in 2019.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and singing in the church choir. Before the trampoline accident, he also enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, swimming, soccer, tennis and traveling. Bill was a Christian his entire life, attending Baptist and Methodist churches, most recently Tarrytown United Methodist Church and Walnut Creek Baptist Church. In the last 20 years of his life, he read the entire bible twice and continued studying the Scriptures.
Bill is survived by his wife of 2 years, Fleita Welsh of Austin, TX, his mother Phyllis Malan of Austin, TX, one daughter Tina Winn (Travis) of Georgetown, TX, son Erik (Crystal) of Lakeway, TX and son Dylan (Sunny) of Lenoir, NC. He is also survived by one sister, Marilyn (Geoffery) Jackson, grandchildren Jeremy Lothringer of Austin, TX, Raven Malan of Lenoir, NC, step-grandchildren Danica Winn of Georgetown, TX and JJ Salas of Lakeway, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Malan (Bob) and step-daughter Rachel King.
Due to Covid-19, only immediate family members will attend graveside service at Mahomet Cemetery in Mahomet, TX, later this week. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Walnut Creek Baptist Church in memory of Bill.
