

He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was known for his friendliness. There was never a person he met that he did not befriend. His positive outlook on life brought laughter, joy and humor to all his loved ones. He enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle with his beloved wife, Belinda. He enjoyed celebrating life so not a birthday would go by without a celebration. Getting him away from the barbecue pit was hard, because he loved barbecuing for his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy, he loved spending time with them.
He was a proud police officer for 30 years with the Pharr Police Department and McAllen Police Department, and 10 years with the Pharr Department of Public Safety. After his retirement he enjoyed having reunions with his retired police officer friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Alfonso was preceded in death by his parents, Teodoro and Sara Zavala; and two brothers.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Belinda Zavala; his children, Tamara, Melissa and Paul; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and 12 siblings.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a 6 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Interment will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Funeral services are under the direction of Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr.
