Antonio Garcia, a respected and beloved member of Pharr, Texas, entered eternal rest on February 20, 2024. Born on June 13, 1931, Antonio's life was marked by unwavering dedication to his family, a tireless work ethic, and a profound love for his community.
A loving husband, Antonio was married to Rosa for 65 vibrant years. Together, they nurtured a companionship rich with conversation, filled with shared hobbies such as gardening and going to the movies, and a simple joy found in the daily ritual of breakfast side by side. Antonio's diverse skills earned him the reputation of a jack of all trades. His artistic nature, deep respect for elders, and particularly poignant honor shown towards veterans, were facets of his character admired by all. He imparted his wisdom and self-reliance to his children, ensuring they too mastered the craft of being handy. His passion for baseball led him to coach teams, proudly including his own children, instilling sportsmanship and teamwork. His enthusiasm extended to cheering for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their various games and activities, always showing his support. Antonio's service to his community was unwavering. A fixture on both the planning and zoning board, and the library board of Pharr, he dedicated 30 years to civil service, leaving a mark that was celebrated with his own proclamation date. His tenure at the United States Postal Service (USPS) was no less exemplary. For 35 years, Antonio demonstrated the same dedication and reliability that were his hallmarks, touching the lives of countless individuals through his service.
A brave veteran, Antonio served his country during the Korean War at the tender age of 18, embodying the spirit of a true patriot throughout his life. He was a provider at heart, known for his profound love for his family and God. Sundays were a time of worship and togetherness, often culminating in the family tradition of gathering at Taco Fiesta after church. When it came to football, his passion was particularly unwavering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys, a team he followed with loyalty and pride. Antonio Garcia's life was a testament to the values of family, faith, and community. His legacy is one of love, strength, and dedication, and he will be deeply missed by those fortunate enough to have known him.
Survived with deep sorrow by his wife, Rosa G. Garcia; seven children, Cynthia (Lino) Luna, Abby (Arnold) Martinez, Alma Garcia, Antonio "Tony" Jr. Garcia, Ada G. (Nick) Mendoza, Albert (Pam) Garcia, Roy Garcia; his sister, Linda Sandoval; fifteen grandchildren, Michael Luna, Alberto Luna, April Carrillo, Tiffany Luna, Anthony Luna, Amy Martinez, Adam Martinez, Abram Martinez, Nicholas Mendoza, Mia Mendoza, Ysa Mendoza, Jaysen Garcia, Jake Garcia, Madison Garcia, Matthew Garcia; thirteen great-grandchildren; many more family and friends.
Antonio is preceded in death by his parents, Mateo and Ygnacia Garcia; two sisters, Ernestina Garcia Garcia and Velia Garcia Garcia.
A viewing will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 from 5pm to 10pm with a rosary service at 7pm. Services will continue Thursday, February 29, 2024 with a catholic mass at 10am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church followed by burial at 11am at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens.
