Douglas "Doug" Edward Gregory, 58 from Pharr, Texas entered eternal rest on February 23, 2024 at DHR Health Hospice in Edinburg, Texas with his dedicated sweetheart, Celia by his side. Doug was born on October 8, 1965 in Sinton, Texas and graduated from Mathis High School in 1984. He then followed with graduating from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi with a degree in English. He thoroughly enjoyed teaching at the secondary level and always loved his students and dedicated himself wholeheartedly to teaching them new ideas every school year.
He married the love of his life Celia (Sandoval) on June 20, 2009 and he become a proud stepfather to Mikaila, whom he loved dearly.
Doug was a humble, genuine soul and was always smiling. He was a gentle giant that worked hard daily to see the good in people and always remained understanding, positive and loving. As a child, he grew up with a “frog in his pocket and a snake in his hand”, working to find joy in simple pleasures. He wholeheartedly enjoyed playing football for his alma mater and raising hogs in FFA. He treasured his special group of friends that become beloved brothers and sisters to him and he made so many more friends throughout his life that always made him feel extra special and adored. His perfect day would consist of spending it with his family, having a great time fishing all day and then ending the day cooking an amazing meal, watching his favorite team as a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros or the Texas Aggies with his loyal pets Lucy and Tori on one side and his honey Celia on the other. Doug was a blessing to all who knew him and his life will be fondly remembered by many who already miss him dearly.
Doug is survived by his devoted wife Celia (Sandoval), step daughter Mikaila Alonzo, step sons, Angelo Pintello and Edward Flores, sister Kathrine Ann (Roland) Osterwinter, his loving parents-in-law Amador and Elizabeth Sandoval, sisters-in-law Yolanda (Roland) Garza, Belinda (Roel) Trevino, Mary (Mark) Flores and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, whom he loved and missed dearly, George Edward Gregory and Barbara Alline (Stautzenberger) Gregory and his niece Mary Therese Trevino. Pallbearers will be his nephews Konrad Osterwinter, Joseph Trevino, Cristian Garza, Gabriel Garza, his brother-in-law Roland Garza and his dear "nephew" Robert Wyman. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews John Paul Trevino, Michael Trevino and Isaiah Trevino. We would like to give a heartwarming thanks to all the wonderful friends and family that sent such comforting messages, took the time to offer love, visits and uplifting prayers and especially to the caring nurses, caretakers, support staff and doctors that gave an outpouring of heartfelt support and gentle care both at DHR Hospital and DHR Health Hospice.
