

She was born on August 17, 1948, in Donna, Texas, to the late Rodolfo and Maria del Refugio Casares. She was preceded in death by her sister, Velma Martinez; her ex-husband, Loreto De León Jr.; and her lifelong partner, Johnny Morin.
Melba was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and kindness touched countless lives. She found joy in tending her garden and caring for those around her. Of all the special gifts in life, however great or small, having her in our lives was the greatest gift of all.
She is survived by her daughter, Adrianna, and her grandson, Jaiden De León; her sisters, Thelma Basaldua, Elva Ayala, and Elma Vera; her brothers, Rodolfo and Ricardo Casares; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at McAllen Heart Hospital for their support, kindness, and compassionate care during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Visitation will resume at 8:15 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026, with a Catholic service at 10:00 a.m. at the same location. Burial will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
