
Nelda Ann Gutierrez of McAllen, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2026, at the age of 55. She was born on November 1, 1970, in Fresno, California, and was raised in San Benito, Texas, where she developed the values of compassion, hard work, and dedication that would guide her throughout her life.
Nelda leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and unwavering love for her family, friends, students, and community. Her generous spirit and caring heart touched countless lives, and her memory will continue to live on in all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Nelda graduated from San Benito High School in 1989. Inspired by her passion for education and helping others succeed, she continued her studies at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she earned her master's degree. She devoted her professional life to education, believing deeply in the power of learning to transform lives and open doors of opportunity.
Throughout her distinguished career, Nelda served as a teacher in Donna ISD, a counselor at McAllen High School, and later as an assistant principal in La Joya ISD. She dedicated her life to guiding, encouraging, and supporting students as they pursued their goals and future careers. Nelda treated every student as if they were her own, offering wisdom, compassion, and unwavering support. Her impact as an educator and mentor will continue to be felt for generations through the many lives she influenced.
Outside of her professional life, Nelda had a tremendous love for animals. She lovingly cared for her eight cats and her faithful dog, Carlo, who brought her endless joy and companionship. An avid pet lover, she was always willing to help stray animals and provide care to those in need. Her kindness extended not only to people but to every animal she encountered.
Nelda also found peace and happiness at the beach, where she enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the ocean. Above all else, she cherished every moment spent with family and friends. Whether sharing laughter, celebrating milestones, or simply enjoying time together, she created lasting memories that will forever be treasured by those she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Armando Gutierrez and Graciela Lozano, and her brother, Ruben Trevino.
Nelda is survived by her loving siblings: Carlos Trevino; Leticia J. Trevino (Peter Miskov); Nancy Rodriguez; Michael Trevino; and Armando Gutierrez III (Nora). She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and former students who will deeply miss her and cherish the memories they shared with her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Salvador, Angel, and Sandra for their support, kindness, and dedication in helping keep Nelda's memory alive. Their love and friendship have been a source of comfort during this difficult time.
Though Nelda's presence will be deeply missed, her legacy of love, compassion, service, and dedication to others will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be remembered not only for what she accomplished, but for the countless lives she touched with her generous heart. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley, 4607 North Sugar Road, Pharr, TX 78577, on June 9, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at St Joseph The Worker Catholic Church, 900 S 23rd St, McAllen, TX 78501, on June 10, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Committal Service to follow at La Piedad Cemetery, 1801 Wichita Ave, McAllen, TX 78503.
