

Oscar was born on December 6, 1935, in San Benito, Texas, and raised in Rio Hondo, Texas, where he attended school. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959 and was stationed in Panama in the Panama Canal Zone. His time in the military instilled values of integrity, discipline, and resilience, which he carried throughout his life.
Beyond his service, Oscar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished time with his family and was known for his kind heart, wisdom, and humor. His presence brought joy to those around him, and his legacy of love and strength will endure in the hearts of all who knew him. Oscar Silva Sr. will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His love, courage, and kindness will live on in those fortunate to know him.
Oscar was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elena (Helen) Conde Silva.
He is survived by his daughter, the Honorable Diana Herrera, and son-in-law, Dr. Johnny Herrera; his son, Oscar Silva Jr., and daughter-in-law, Belinda Silva; and his son, Paul Michael Silva, and daughter-in-law, Tina Silva. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: John Michael, Robert Alexander, Demi Rae, Sophia Nicole, Lauren Elise, and Isabella Rose. He was also blessed with a great-grandson, Fidel Eduardo.
In addition to his family, he leaves many dear friends and loved ones behind him.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with a rosary at 7 pm, at Funeraria Del Angel Palm Valley, 4607 North Sugar Road, Pharr, Texas 78577.
The catholic service will occur Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at 9:45 am, at Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr. Following burial at Rio Grande Valley State Veteran Cemetery in Mission, TX.
Funeral services are under the direction of Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr.
