

Dr. Pedro Juan Kowalyszyn passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at the age of 89 in McAllen, Texas. He was born on June 26, 1932 in Cordoba, Argentina to Ukrainian immigrants, Nicolas Kowalyszyn and Eudosia Swyd. He graduated medical school at the Universidad Nacional De Cordoba in 1956, and became a certified specialist in Gynecology in 1966. After he and his first wife moved to the United States, Pedro became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in 1972, then moved to McAllen, Texas, where he ultimately called home.
In 1993, he married Ines Cristina Ferrigno, his devoted and loving wife, who was always by his side until his departure. Pedro was a kind and mild-mannered man who enjoyed traveling, the opera, writing, and was an avid reader with an extensive library. After his retirement in 2004, he and Ines enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Pedro is survived by his wife, Ines Kowalyszyn; his sister, Olga Kowalyszyn; nephews, Marcelo and Eduardo Kowalyszyn; stepdaughters Claudia (Jim) Trippe and Katya Watson; step-grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa Pedro, Gregory Trippe, Justin Trippe, and Aleksae Watson; in addition to in-laws and a host of long-time friends.
His parents and his first wife, Rita Cwirko, preceded Pedro in death.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
