

Robert Salazar, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 24, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on March 23, 1948, in Enid, Oklahoma, and was a longtime resident of Edinburg, Texas.
Robert was a curious and insightful man, finding talent for woodworking and various craftsmanship work, through which he hand-built his home in South Texas. He was an avid reader and storyteller of the history of South Texas and Northern Mexico. He retired as Transportation Director from South Texas ISD. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, where his favorite pastime was hunting. He was loved by all his family and friends, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Carmina Salazar; his four sons, Roberto A. (Gloria) Salazar, Daniel V. (Elsa) Salazar, Luis D. (Elia) Salazar, and Miguel A. (April) Salazar; 14 grandchildren, whom he cherished deeply—especially his granddaughters—and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Juanita G. Rubio; his siblings, Irma Varga, Raymond Rubio, Evangelina Rubio, Jean Shaughnessy, Bernardo Rubio, Joe Gilbert Salazar, and Mary Salazar Hartman; as well as numerous family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Miguel Salazar; his stepfather, Jose Juan Rubio; and his siblings, Eustacio Rubio, Michael Salazar, David Salazar, Celia Salazar, and Anita Salazar.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Robert’s life. Visitation will be held on March 30, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr.
A Catholic Service will take place on March 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Funeraria del Angel Palm Valley in Pharr, followed by burial at 11:00 a.m. at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.
Robert’s legacy of love, strength, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
