Born in 1942, Uvaldo devoted his life to serving others—most notably through his many years as a school teacher, serving his country in the National Guard, and his church community. Uvaldo was a proud graduate of the University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV) with a Bachelor's degree in Education, shaping the lives of countless students with patience, wisdom, and heart. His impact in the classroom was matched only by the deep care he showed to his family and community.
Uvaldo was a true family man. He was a loving and devoted husband to the love of his life, Yolanda. Their marriage of 56 beautiful years was a shining example of enduring love and partnership. Together, they shared a passion for dancing (especially to Tejano music) and traveling. They brought joy to every dance floor they stepped on and visited every state in the continental US.
Uvaldo was a proud and supportive father and grandfather, finding his greatest joy in the successes and happiness of his children and grandchildren. His pride in their careers and lives was evident in every conversation, smile, and cherished family photo. Family trips and time together were treasured moments he held close to his heart.
In addition to his love of family and music, Uvaldo was a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan, a talented musician, and someone who could light up a room with his charisma and unique sense of humor.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Uvaldo will remember him for his gentle spirit, his unwavering love, and the way he always made others feel seen, supported, and loved. He leaves behind a rich legacy of family.
Mr. Avila is preceded in death by his parents, Luis H. and Soila G. Avila, and three siblings, Luis Avila Jr., Santos Avila Escareño, and Minerva Avila.
