Chris was born April 11, 1957 in Columbus, GA; he was the son of the late Carlton and Beverly Newsome and Cooper Leggett. He was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Leggett. Chris also known as 'Red Boy", was deeply loved as a devoted husband, father and grandpa. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama of which he was a life long and avid fan. Upon completion of his bachelor's degree in Geology, he spent over 40 years working in the environmental clean-up industry as a project manager. Chris was known by all of his friends, family and colleagues as a hard working, funny, generous, courageous, intelligent, and at times, " life of the party." When he was young he was an Eagle Scout in Troop #149. Chris loved being outdoors whether it was mowing the grass, or pretending to be a mechanic, but most of all he loved spending his free time on the back waters of Lake Harding, AL, listening to Bob Seger or Elton John at a volume so loud you could hear him from Opelika.
Chris is survived by his wife of 23 years RayJean Leggett; his children, Chris Leggett II (Ashleigh) of Charleston, SC; Parker Leggett (Emily) of Abilene, TX; Andrea Feagin (Reggie) of Pelham; Nathan Newman of Pelham and Andy Newman (Kristy) of Williamston, SC; his grandchildren, Callan Leggett, Collins Leggett, Jayden Feagin, Tanner Newman, Ashlyn Newman, Jaxson Newman, Carter Newman, Griffin Newman and a brother, Stephen Leggett (Mary) of Opelika, AL.
