Calvin was born on June 13, 1946 in Notasulga, Alabama to Wilmer and Bessie King. He graduated from Macon County High School and attended Auburn University and Troy University. After school, he joined the Marine Corp, where he served for 6 years. He married Marilyn Baker on September 5, 1964, where they would go on to have two daughters, Kimberly and Lisa. They settled in Phenix City, Alabama where Calvin began working at Dolly Madison. He was sent to Chicago, and there he attended and graduated from the American Institute of Baking. He then worked at Sunshine Biscuits (later known as Kellogg’s) as a supervisor.
He loved being with his family and was involved in sports and band for his daughters. He coached his daughter, Lisa’s softball team and they won 3rd place in the National Championship. He loved fishing and traveling and later, being a grandfather to his granddaughter.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father; his brother, Bruce King (Betty); his sister, Edna Patterson; and his son in law, Donald Pope. He leaves behind his loving wife, Marilyn King; his daughters, Kimberly Pope and Lisa Sinclair (Mark); his granddaughter, Sarah Pope; along with a niece, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Celebration of Life Visitation for Family and Friends for Calvin will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867.
