SSG (Retired Charles Ernest Choate, 86 of Phenix City, AL died Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday December 11, 2017 at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Pastor David Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL.
Mr. Choate was born August 23, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois; son of the late Charlie and Dorothy Bratcher Choate. He served the United States Army during the Korean and the Vietnam conflicts. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Joyce Taylor Choate and his daughter, Carrie V. Rhodes.
Survivors include his daughter, Dorothy L. Mobley (William) of Phenix City, AL, son, Charles E. Choate, Jr. (Dayna) of Travelers Rest, SC, sisters, Nora Jean Schwarzkopf and Shelia Burgess both of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Carrie Ann VanBogart, Kenneth D. VanBogart, Daniel M. Woods, Christopher M. Woods, Polly Anna Terrell, Charles Reed Choate, Marina C. Choate, and nine great grandchildren.
