
SSG (Ret) Chris August Maurer, 84 of Phenix City, Alabama died Sunday April 26, 2015 at the Bill Nichols Veterans Home in Alexander City, AL. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday April 30, 2015 at Lakewood Baptist Church with Rev. M. R. Hamilton officiating. A private burial with military honors will be held at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery according to Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mr. Maurer was born October 24, 1930 in Wadesboro, Louisiana; son of the late Chris A. and Clara Schnider Maurer. He was a faithful member of Lakewood Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL, was a deacon, door greeter, worked in the Food Closet Program and was a volunteer at the Infantry Museum. He was retired after 21 years of service in the U.S. Army, during World War II and the Korean War. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Maurer.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Maurer of Phenix City, AL, daughters, Wendy McGomery of Charlotte, NC, Linda Maurer of Columbus, GA, son, Klaus Maurer (Kim) of Jacksonville, FL, "special grandson", Tim McGomery (Jennifer) of New Jersey, three other grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lakewood Baptist Church Building Fund, 4011 Lakewood Dr., Phenix City, AL 36867.
