This is a tribute to my mother. Eula Fay Newsome Rumsey was a quiet woman who first and foremost lived for her Savior and cherished His Word. She married her only Sweetheart and looking back now I realize how well their marriage worked. Dad was always out and about and doing things to make a living for our family. Mom never had a problem living in dad’s shadow. She would not have it any other way. My mom was a virtuous, strong spirited and multi-talented woman. She was a brilliant seamstress. She always carried a pencil and pad in her purse. She would sketch lovely designed clothing from The Kiddie Shoppe and add her own special touches designing exquisite masterpieces of her own. My sister and I had the finest dresses each Sunday. We always had a ride to and from school and when dad arrived home a wonderful meal on the table. We prayed together and we ate together every day. She was a fabulous cook and after a long day of taking care of us she always found the strength to help with a surprise school project, and give a serious lecture to a four year old that thumb sucking would make her teeth crooked and was only allowed at bedtime. She would pull my thumb out when I fell asleep. She gave to those in need and never revealed whom she gave to nor revealed her identity. She never missed one monthly contribution to St. Jude in 19 years because her grandchildren were healthy and she wanted all children to live cancer free.
Few people knew the strength of the incredible woman we call mom and nanny. I will forever be grateful for the years I had with her and the love she gave to my sister, myself, and my children. She was wise, kind, and always spoke softly. I will forever be grateful that God spared my life when I was born and Dr. Munn placed me in my mother’s arms. Thank you mom for always standing by a daughter who only wanted to belong to you. Your wisdom, beauty and kindness will never be forgotten. I love you , Rebekah
