
Geneva Moore Holmes, 89 of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday July 15, 2011 at the Columbus Medical Center. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. EDT at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Rev. George Palmer officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Hwy 431 N., Phenix City, AL. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Holmes was born July 26, 1921 in Lee County, Alabama, daughter of the late William Lee Arnold Moore and Nellie Shaw Moore. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and past secretary of Shaw Sunday School Class. She was the former secretary of the Extension Service of Russell County, past member of the Seale Homemakers, Circle 10 Cattleman's association of Russell County, United Daughters of the Confederation, past president of Pilot Club of Phenix City and member of Pilot Club of Columbus, Executive Club of Columbus, GA, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, volunteer of Phenix Regional and Medical Center Auxillary. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lazrous Herndon Holmes.
Survivors include her son, Ronnie Lamar Holmes, Sr. and wife Martha of Houston, TX, daughter, Alison Ennis Holmes Palmer and husband Mark of Opelika, AL, granchildren, Ronnie Holmes, Jr., Lynda Truehlar, Philip Palmer, Paul Palmer, Jessica Palmer and great grandchildren and other relatives.
