
A memorial service will be held 4:00 P.M. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church in Phenix City, according to Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL.
Judge Greene was born on July 11, 1950 in Muscogee County and was the son of the late Robert C. Greene Sr and Cora Reid Smoot Greene.
George graduated from Central High School 1968 and attended Auburn University where he earned his bachelors degree in Arts & Sciences with a major in History and a minor in Political Science and Geology. In 1972, he earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Alabama. He began serving in the Russell County District Attorney's office in 1975 as Assistant District Attorney for four years. In November of 1979, Judge Greene was appointed as District Judge in Russell County where he served for 18 1/2 years. He was appointed to the 26th Circuit in 1998 where he served until his retirement on December 1, 2013.
Judge Greene was one of the longest serving judges in the State of Alabama serving Russell County for 34 years and continued public service through his dedication to civic and state public service organizations that included the establishment of the "Cora Reid Greene Home for Children." He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he taught the Jane Gullatt Sunday School Class and was the Founder of the Greene Museum in Phenix City.
George is survived by his brother, John Walter Greene; his neice, Lacey Greene Skinner and husband, Kenneth Blake Skinner; his nephew, John Boren Greene all of Phenix City. He is preceded in death by his brother, Robert C. Greene, Jr and sister-in-law, Teresa B. Greene.
