

passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on May 24, 2026.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Charles Asa "Kit" Carson; her sisters, Ann Ellis (Glenn) and Nelda White; and her loving parents, Johnnie Pascal Baker and Bonnie Ruth Tyler Baker.
She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory, including her children: Charles Patrick (Beth) Carson, James Atlas Carson, and Kathrine Leara Carson. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Kathrine Lisa Medley, Melissa (Robert) Swift, Amber (Ben) Nelson, Megan Bennett, Michael Bennett, Chelsea (Micah) Gay, and Elizabeth (Shannon) Boyte.
Janie was a proud and loving great-grandmother to Dacey (Bobby), Destiny, Ella, Carson Pearl, June Elise, Jeremy Elijah, Olivia, Ben, Quinn, Levi, Gideon, and Reagan, and a treasured great-great-grandmother to Adalynn Willow.
Janie devoted much of her life to caring for others. Her compassion extended not only to people, but to animals as well. She spent many years caring for the animals at Wild Things Orphanage in Seale, Alabama. Big or small, wiry or calm, she lovingly fed, nurtured, and cared for them all.
Among the many roles she held in life, Janie was a devoted wife, an amazing mother, and the best grandmother anyone could ask for. Born in Ariton, Alabama, her family moved to Phenix City, Alabama where she met her husband, going on to spend many years living in California, eventually returning home to settle in Seale, Alabama. She also dedicated many years of service to West Point Pepperell Mills in Columbus, Georgia, where she worked alongside and formed lasting friendships with many.
Janie was a Life Member of the Ladie's Auxillary at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5228 in Smiths Station, Alabama and also served as the Alabama State Page from 2004-2005. The friendships she built there brought her great joy throughout the years.
Janie's warmth, kindness, and caring spirit touched countless lives. She will remain deeply cherished and lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Her legacy of love and compassion will continue through all those fortunate enough to have known her.
