Jerry graduated from Chavala High School in 1977 and went on to earn a degree in Elementary Education from Troy University. He dedicated his career to Phenix City Schools, where he became known for his unique and engaging teaching style. His classrooms were places of constant learning and excitement—often filled with classroom pets, community gardens, and weekly rewards that made learning come alive for his students.
Outside of his work, Jerry had a wide range of interests. He faithfully volunteered at Backwoods Christian Camp for over 25 years, enjoyed riding his bicycle across Georgia, and loved camping and hiking.
In 1982, Jerry married the love of his life, Angela Lucas. They shared 43 wonderful years of marriage before Angela went home to be with the Lord earlier this month. They were true partners in every sense of the word, building a life centered on love, faith, and family. Together, they raised two sons and later embraced their roles as “Papa” and “GiGi” with the birth of their granddaughters.
Jerry was a man of steadfast faith. As a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, he served in many capacities—leading singing, teaching teen classes, volunteering in various ministries, and even caring for church buildings through maintenance work. His servant’s heart and strong faith left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Angela. He is survived by his two sons, Jeremy (Karla) Green and Justen Green; his granddaughters, Mila and Nora Green; his brother, Robert (Charlotte) Green; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
Visitation for Jerry will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Rose Hill Church of Christ in Columbus, Georgia, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Jeremy Green and Jordan Alker will officiate, with singing led by Josh Pate.
