John Henry Austin, 72 of Phenix City, Alabama, formerly of Sylacauga, AL., died Friday June 3, 2011 in Phenix City. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday June 6, 2011 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama, 36867, with the Reverend Doug Casey officiating. Interment will be in Parkhill Cemetery in Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 3pm until 5pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Austin was born January 31, 1939 in Pike County, Alabama, son of the late, Alex Harvey Austin and Lillie Roberts Austin. He was a diesel mechanic by trade and by baptist by faith. Other than his parents Mr. Austin is preceded in death by his daughter, Jackie Rhodes, a grandson, two brothers and a sister.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Teresa Austin of Lynn Haven, FL., Raymond Austin of Phenix City, his daughters, MonaGayle Presley of Phenix City and Cindy Turner of Baton Rouge, LA., brother and sister-in-law, Ewell and Ruth Austin of Phenix City, sister, Williose Burns of Jacksonville, FL., loving companion, Ann Sale of Birmingham, AL., 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 72 is too young. Cancer is too evil. Loss is too painful. I am without words except to say that I am very sorry for the family. John was good to so many people. He loved his family. My prayers are for you all.
