John Raymond Brooks, age 76, of Smiths Station, Alabama passed away on Tuesday December 11, 2018. John was born September 25, 1942 in Phenix City, Alabama to the late Raymond Edgar Brooks and Nellie Marie Jackson Brooks.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Phenix City, Alabama. A Funeral Service will be in Lakewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary of Phenix City, Alabama on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, 3800 US Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867.
John spent his life dedicated to everything he did. He proudly served in the United States Navy, was a Textile Worker and a Barber. He never met a stranger. He loved fishing, golf and crafting hobbies. He always taught his loved ones to have patience, tolerance and that actions speak louder than words. He and his friends always got a kick out of crazy off the wall things. Mr. Brooks will always be remembered for his welcoming attitude, his infectious smile, his undeniable love and his good sense of humor.
John is survived by his daughter Tracy Brooks; sisters Susan McCreary, of Seneca, SC, Margie Clark, of Lilburn, GA, Celeste King, of Paoli, IN and brother Marshall Brooks, of Martham, England; grandchildren, Jonathan N. Green, Kelen C. Green (Hester) and Zachery E. Brooks; two great grandchildren, Americus Tillman and Timber Hester; former spouse, Elizabeth Bradshell; and three stepsons, Tim Kilpatrick, Paul Kilpatrick and Mark Kilpatrick. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to cherish his loving memory. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Edgar Brooks.
