November 22, 1955 – June 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jonathan Scott Leggett, affectionately known to most as Scott or simply "Red," on June 29, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on November 22, 1955, Scott was a lifelong resident of Phenix City, Alabama, a community he loved deeply and where he built countless friendships over the years. To know Scott was to know a familiar face, a friendly wave, and a warm conversation. He never met a stranger and could often be found catching up with friends around town or sharing stories over a cold beer at one of his favorite local spots.
Scott was a devoted father, son, brother, and friend whose sense of humor brought laughter to those fortunate enough to know him. His independent spirit, and loyalty to family and friends defined the way he lived his life.
Many throughout the community will remember seeing Scott riding his bicycle along the Riverwalk, enjoying the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. More often than not, he was accompanied by his beloved black dog, Hunter Bear, who occasionally seemed convinced he was the one in charge, happily pulling Scott along on their adventures.
Together, they became a familiar sight around town. Scott found joy in the everyday moments—good friends, familiar places, a beautiful day by the river, and the companionship of those he loved. His easygoing nature and genuine friendship touched the lives of many, leaving behind memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Though our hearts ache with his passing, we take comfort in remembering the laughter he shared, the friendships he nurtured, and the life he lived on his own terms. The roads and Riverwalk of Phenix City will not seem quite the same without him.
Scott will be deeply missed by his family, his many friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories told, the friendships he fostered, and the love he leaves behind.
Rest easy, Red. Your ride may be over, but your journey through the hearts of those who loved you will never end.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly Newsome (Carlton) and his father, Cooper Leggett.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his brothers, Stephen Leggett (Mary) and Chris Leggett (Ray Jean); his son, Nicolas Leggett (Dawn); his daughter, Brook Wood Frander; and his beloved grandchildren, Peyton Frander, Tanner Leggett, Owen Leggett, Trevor Leggett, Seth McKeithen, Taylin Leggett, and Spencer Leggett. He was also the proud great-grandfather of five cherished great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 2, 2026 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm EDT at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL. A Celebration of life funeral service will be held Monday July 6. 2026 at 2:00pm EDT in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, followed by a burial at Lakeview Memory Gardens.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Columbus Hospice in memory of Scott Leggett.
