Joyce Eloise Downing, 88, formerly of Phenix City, AL, passed away March 8, 2014, under the watchful care of Embracing Hospice in Snellville, GA. Mrs. Downing was born November 30, 1925, in Phenix City, AL, the youngest and last surviving child of the late Earnest and Essie Baker Smith. She was a house wife, member of the Summerville Garden Club, Phenix City Sewing Club, First Presbyterian Women, and participated in beautification projects in both Phenix City and Columbus.
The family will welcome friends March 9, 2014 4:00- 6:00 p.m. at Striffler Hamby's Phenix City, AL location on hwy431 North for a visitation. A Celebration of Life Service will be held March 10, 2014 2:00 p.m. in the Phenix City Chapel, followed by a committal service at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Other than her parents and siblings she is preceded by her husband Lemuel Downing, and a daughter Linda Carol Blau. She is survived by her son; Rev Tyler Downing of Petersburg, PA, and her daughter Jennie Downing (Les) Deese of Snellville, GA, Seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
