Martha Hedden, age 88, resident of Smith Station, Alabama, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at her residence. Funeral services are scheduled at Lakewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, Alabama on Saturday, April 28, 2019, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens, Phenix City, Alabama. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 27, 2019 from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Hedden, daughter of the late Grant Hedden and Rosa Cole Hedden, was born December 31, 1930 in Phenix City, Alabama. She was a member of Smith Station Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Mrs. Hedden began her working career with Bibb Textiles and worked there faithfully for over 20 years. She then started a new career working at Ladonia Elementary School, working for over 20 years, and retiring from full time employment. After retirement, she had a heart of wanting to help others, and began assisting senior citizens with home health care assistance, where she served the local community for over 10 years.
Mrs. Hedden was a simple lady, always demonstrating unselfishness, wanting to help others. She loved her family; country music; to play the piano and guitar; but particularly loved young kids. The family reflects her love of music and always respecting others. She leaves a legacy of her faith of being a Jehovah Witness and always having a positive attitude towards anyone.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Huey Hedden and a sister, Dorothy Stafford. Mrs. Hedden is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Malone of Smith Station, Alabama and Elizabeth Tidwell of Columbus; two nephews, John Arnold and his wife Debra of Smith Station, Alabama and Matt Arnold, also of Smith Station, Alabama; two nieces, Susie Autry and her husband Derrell of Smith Station, Alabama and Deanie Hanks and her husband Johnny of Dothan, Alabama; many other relatives and friends.
