

The gates of Heaven opened and welcomed a new angel home as Mama looked Jesus in the face and it took her breath away. Alzheimer’s took so much away from all of us, but through God’s amazing grace she has been stripped from this cruel disease. She is now strolling all over Heaven reuniting with family and friends as they rejoice in the presence of their Lord. For that we rejoice and are thankful. Mama was born on August 2, 1937 to H.H. Mobley and Annie Maude Mobley in Victoria, Alabama. The family moved to Phenix City the summer before she entered the third grade. It was during this time that she met her God sent sister, Shelby Jean Ivey. Mama spent the rest of life in Phenix City. Mama was a 1955 graduate of Central High School and a 1958 graduate of Birmingham Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. Soon after graduation she became a registered nurse at Cobb Memorial Hospital. It was there she would meet her soul mate, Donald Henderson. They married on August 12, 1960. Mary Ellen is survived by her two proud son’s and their families, Bruce and Janie Henderson of Phenix City of Phenix City, Brent Henderson and Calvin Houts of Decatur, GA.She is also survived by her pride and joy, her grandson, Andy Henderson of Phenix City. Other than her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Henderson and God sent sister, Shelby Jean Ivey. The family will receive friends Saturday August 11th from 5pm until 7pm at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with the funeral service being held at 2:00pm EST Sunday in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 3770 Highway 431 N, Phenix City, Alabama.
