Mavel Garner

Mrs. Mavel Garner, 98, of Phenix City, Alabama passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026 peacefully at home with her family. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held at 12:00pm EST, Friday, January 23, 2026 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, Alabama with Pastor Eric Hood officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until 12:00pm EST prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.

Mrs. Garner was born May 26, 1927 in Opp, Alabama; daughter of the late James Quitman Richardson and Lucy Gertrude Strickland Richardson. She along with her late husband, Will Garner owned and operated the New York Hatters and Cleaners located in Phenix City, Alabama for many years and later she was employed with Star Cleaners in Columbus, Georgia. She was a long time faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church in Phenix City.

Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Will Garner, her daughter, Sharon Jones, brother, James Theo "Brother" Richardson and her sister, Madeline Richardson.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol Bolding (Terry) and Karen Garner; her grandchildren, Valerie Hood (Eric), Joel Jones, Amy Martin; great grandchildren, Elijah Hood, Addie Hood, Katie Martin and Norah Martin. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Jimmy Richardson, Julie Turner, Art Richardson, Bill Richardson and Michael Richardson.
