Michael was a retired United States Army service member, having served his country with distinction over the course of his military career.
He is survived by his wife, Wol Son Patterson; his children, Rachel Gillum (Joshua), Daniel Patterson (Ashley), and Esther Lange (Andrew); and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Brenda Cotton (Richard), Debra Catchings (Mark), Susan Levert, and Sherry Denney (David), as well as three nieces, five great-nieces, one great-great-niece, two nephews, two great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Kenneth Patterson.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held 11:00am EST Thursday, February 26, 2026 in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby-3770 Hwy 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867. Burial with Military Honors will follow at 12:30pm EST at Fort Mitchell national Cemetery, 553 Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, Alabama 36856.
