Graveside Funeral Services with USMC Military Honors will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL.

Mr. Sowell was born September 8, 1929 in Red Level, Alabama, son of the late Wesley Ples Sowell and Jessie Ray Franklin Sowell. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was retired from what is formerly known as PepsiCo and was owner of the Lindsey Creek Golf Range in Columbus, Georgia for 15 plus years.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kay Nell Whittle Sowell.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharman Sowell Hopkins and her husband, Danny; son, Timothy Mitchell Sowell and his wife, Terry Giglio Sowell; grandchildren, Heather Hart Pierce, Desiree Hart Kennison, Arron Chapman Sowell and Thomas Brent Sowell. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, William Duffield, David Pierce, Morgan Pierce, MacKenzie Kennison, Emily Kennison, Leah Sowell, Katie Sowell and his great-great granddaughter, Marlowe Pierce.
