Orie Lamar Simmons, 66 of Salem, Alabama died Friday August 19, 2016 at the Columbus Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 3pm EST on Monday August 29, 2016 at Striffler-Hamby in Phenix City, AL.
Orie was born November 22, 1949 in Phenix City, Alabama. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Ellen Simmons, step-son Kyle McClary and wife Denise, grandsons Garrison, Grant and Griffin; Son Orie Simmons, Jr.; granddaughters Brittany and Cheyenne and grandson Taylor. Also Dorothy Simmons Taylor, his sister Lynn and nephews, Steven and Jeremy. He was preceded in death by his father, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
Orie was blessed with numerous friends and family. He was a Phenix City Firefighter, truck driver and business owner for many years. He enjoyed playing his guitar, fishing, boating and traveling. He was a kind, gentle soul and will be missed dearly by all.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in his memory to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Rd., Columbus, GA 31909.
