Richard “Ricky” Rogers, Jr. passed away December 22, 2019. Ricky was born in Thomaston, GA, August 5, 1954. This quiet, funny, gentle man loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He loved unconditionally, helping others with no thought of gain for himself. His family meant the world to him; he frequently recounted tales of his brothers, sisters and parents.
From the moment he was able, he worked in construction, hanging dry wall like it was Legos. He loved music, singing any chance he had. Cancer took his singing voice but did not take away his love of music. Elvis Presley’s music was dear to him and he listened to the Elvis gospel album countless times. The only thing that surpassed his enjoyment of gospel music was Braves baseball. He has been a fan since the Braves moved to Atlanta, never missing a game. Ricky watched or listened to every game. If anyone prematurely revealed the score, he would pout that he didn’t get to watch it happen unspoiled. Similarly, Ricky made sure to watch every Falcon’s game, cheering them on, win or lose.
When Ricky’s health had declined so that he could not work, he found other things to fill his time. He loved his shows, watching every episode of Matlock, In the Heat of the Night, and Walker Texas Ranger. He watched John Wayne’s ‘McClintock’ way too many times. Ricky is so loved by so many people and he loved so many. He was willing to do anything for those he loved.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Richard O. Rogers and Elizabeth N. (Anthony) Rogers. Ricky is survived by his wife, Bronwen P. Rogers and daughter, Emma M. McPeters. He is also survived by his siblings, Ronald “Ronnie” Rogers, Catherine N. Toomey (Michael), Mary Lynn Allen (Jimmy), Donald Lee Rogers (Joan) and Reba Fay Christian. He has countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at Crawford Road Baptist Church, 2706 US Highway 80 W, Phenix City, AL on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 2pm with visitation starting at 1pm. Marvin Minton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
