Robert Lee King, age 87, long time resident of Salem, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with his wife, Judy, and niece, Jeannie by his side. He was born in Jacksonville, IL and was the son of James and Mildred King. He married Judy Shavers on January 30, 1963 in Columbus, GA.
He served 11 years in the US Army. While serving in the Army, he was a Civil Engineer in the Vietnam War.
Robert was a caring and loving husband and father. He loved gardening, fishing, working in the yard and tinkering around the garage.
Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Baker, and four sisters, Charity Campbell, Lucy Roberts, Betty Bently and Mary Dunaway.
Robert leaves behind his wife, Judy, a daughter, Wanda (Joey) Qualls of Seale, AL, three grandchildren, David King, Jamie Brannen and Chris Baker and several nephews and nieces and his very best friend, Rusty.
A visitation for family and friends for Robert will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Phenix City, 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, Alabama 36867. Following the visitation for family and friends will be a graveside service with military honors at 11:00 AM at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Hwy 165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36856.
