

Ruby Lenora Brooks Cross, 90, of Phenix City, Alabama, passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Gentiva Hospice Hospital, Athens, Georgia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, Phenix City, AL. Interment will follow the service at Lakeview Memory Gardens. Officiating the services will be the Rev. Jim Carpenter and Rev. Udell Addison. Visitation services were held Friday, February 19 at the funeral home.
Serving as pall bearers will be Cody Cross, Jay Pridgen, Darrell Odom, Chad Norton, Brandon Black, and Donald Poore. Honorary pall bearers are her great-grandsons Jayson Pridgen, Jake Sanders, Micah Carpenter, Maclean Carpenter, Brett Black, Cole Jett Black, Blane Anglin, and Zac Anglin.
Mrs. Cross was born May 15, 1925 in Black, Alabama. She is the daughter of the late J. W. and Irene Brooks. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter S. Cross, her daughter, Nancy C. Pridgen, her sisters Arcola Ronalder, Bonnie Strickland, Emma Hutto, Abby VanLandingham , and her brothers Ray Brooks, Hubert Brooks, and Oscar Brooks.
Mrs. Cross is survived by her son, W. Glenn Cross (Joan) of Danielsville, Ga., a daughter, Jane C. Odom (Rodney) of Richland, Ga., and a brother, Calvin Brooks (Jean) of Hartford, Al. She was “Maw Maw” to seven grandchildren whom she adored: Lisa Pridgen Carpenter (Jim), Jay Pridgen (Sonja), Cody Cross (Jackie), Susan Cross, Len Cross Black (Brandon), Darrell Odom (Sally), and Kim Odom Norton (Chad). She has nineteen great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren (with another one on the way). She also has numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Mrs. Cross was a faithful servant to the Lord her God and loved nothing more than being in the kitchen cooking for her family, friends, and those in need.
