Sally Parker Sexton was born October 24, 1924 in Elba, AL to the late Owen Thomas Parker and Sarah S. Smith. She was married to the late Q.P. Sexton "Pete" after WWII. She was a member of Golden Acres Baptist Church since 1969. She retired from Columbus Carpet Mills. Mrs. Sexton worked as a volunteer at local nursing homes for many years. She and Pete were active participants in their grandsons sports activities. Her grandsons gave her much joy and love.
Other than her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Ray Tharpe, son-in-law, Jerry Dennis Tharpe and eleven sisters and brothers.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Tharpe Starke (William) of Seale, AL, grandsons, Jerry Brian Tharpe (Heather) of Seale, AL and Barry Scott Tharpe (Christy) of Smiths, AL; great grandchildren, Sydney Sanders, Jason Wyatt Tharpe and Hunter Aden Tharpe; one surviving sister, Grace Driggers of Elba, AL, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express special gratitude for the support and care given to our mother and grandmother at Parkwood Healthcare and Kindred Hospice.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. EDT in Lakewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, Phenix City, AL with Dr. Ray Cummings officiating. Serving as pall bearers are Brian Tharpe, Barry Tharpe, Wyatt Tharpe, Bobby Harris, Jeff McDonald, Merlin McCrane and Steve Harper. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made to Golden Acres Baptist Church, Senior Ministry.
