Sandra Denise Harless Velazquez beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on July 26, 2023,at Piedmont hospital in Columbus, Georgia at the age of 62 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on August 29th, 1960 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Billy Jay and Iris Charlene Harless. She grew up traveling the world from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Bangkok, Thailand to Columbus, GA where she attended
Hardaway high school and later met the love of her life and father of her children, Ali Velazquez Jr.
Sandra was a homemaker and free spirit with a contagious laugh. At only 4’11, she may have been small
in stature but she was mighty in every way that she fought for her family, friends, and everything she
loved. She loved her boys unconditionally and her home has always been open to them and any of their
friends. She has been like a second mom and grandma to many through the years.
Sandra loved her plants, flowers, and all of her birds and dogs through the years. She loved watching
everything from the Price is Right, football games, action movies, and TV series with her husband and
sons, to cartoons with her grandkids. She loved Holiday gatherings and any reason for a cookout with her
family. She enjoyed listening to many genre’s of music, especially 70’s Rock. She lived life to her own beat and never missed an opportunity to dance or sing along like no one was watching.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Billy and Iris Harless, her mother-in-law, Anna
Hammock and Sister-in law Felicita Pescia (Mike), who were very dear to her.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ali Velazquez Jr., Sons, Ali Velazquez III (Jennifer), Jeremy Velazquez (Nancy). Grandchildren Alliyah Velazquez, Brody Velazquez and Megan, Carson, Mason Baumgart. Sister, Cynthia Harless King (Troy), Her in-laws who were dear to heart, Cathy Miller (Jeff), Angie Daniel’s (Glen), Audrey McDonald (Adrian), Donnie Milner (Jennifer) and many nieces and
nephews and friends whom she loved very much.
A Visitation for family and friends for Sandra will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 from 10:00am-10:30am at Striffler Hamby Mortuary- 3770 Highway 431 North, Phenix City, AL 36867, followed by a
Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 10:30am.
